The sixth annual National Dark-Sky Week (www.ndsw.org) will begin March 29, 2008, and run through April 4. The week-long event seeks to encourage better overall outdoor lighting practices. During the week, citizens and businesses concerned about light pollution are asked to shut off unnecessary lights in their homes and businesses. In addition, the International Dark-Sky Association (www.darksky.org), a supporting organizer of the initiative, is encouraging participants in National Dark-Sky Week to also participate in the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour(www.earthhour.org on March 29, when supporters are asked to turn off their lights at 8:00 p.m. for one hour.
