Project Description

A 1961 house designed by George Lucker nestled into a hillside overlooking Lake Washington in Seattle’s Seward Park neighborhood. Perched on a hillside, the house felt removed from the landscape surrounding it and lacked the flexibility required for an evolving modern family. The client desired to open and integrate living spaces, embrace views of Lake Washington and the Cascade mountains beyond and bring light into a dark entry and master bath. The exposed structural grid was utilized and used as an organizing pattern for the house. The kitchen, living room and dining were opened and integrated for flexibility. Removal of a carbuncular sunroom to build an expansive deck brings light and views lake into the kitchen through a full width glass door. A previously dark and narrow master bathroom was expanded to accommodate a powder room and wet space for a shower and bath under a new skylight.
