FROM THE ARCHITECT:
Computation is typically a prompt to the illusion of determinacy. This set was designed for the exhibition DESIGNING THE COMPUTATIONAL IMAGE / IMAGINING COMPUTATIONAL DESIGN, curated by Daniel Cardoso Llach. The work plays with the indeterminate expression of a singular computational code. The three individual objects, originating from the same base code, manifest a variety of effects. Through representational form, code becomes ambiguous, overwritten by the expression of each singular identity. The topographical flow (003.1) is color-coded according to the sequence and numerical value of each curve. It creates its own aesthetics of informational uncertainty. The dual image of flooded landscapes (003.2) is framed as a painterly set, objectifying the data through use of line, scale and color layering. In addition to its analytical value and the geographical accuracy embedded in the code, it becomes a portrait of a landscape. The thermochromic effects of the electromechanically induced concrete cast (003.03) play with the use of human physiology and affect as an activation of change in material character. Interactivity between this Sentient Object and perception explores the division between humans and their environment.
