In honor of Jason Pettigrew, Assoc. AIA, nine AIA members will receive scholarships to cover the full cost of taking the Architect Registration Examination (ARE). The Jason Pettigrew Memorial ARE Scholarship was established by the National Associates Committee to commemorate Pettigrew, who died in a mountain climbing accident in 2004.
Friends and colleagues say Pettigrew, who was 29 at the time of his death, was committed to helping architecture students and young professionals reach their full potential by championing issues of internship and licensure. Through this scholarship, the nine AIA members will also receive study guides provided by Kaplan Construction Education to help them prepare for the ARE. Pettigrew was in the process of preparing for the test at the time of his accident.
The 2012 scholarship recipients were selected based on their professional contributions at an early stage of their career; community involvement; and creation, development, and delivery of creative programs for interns, among other criteria.
This year’s winners are: Valerie J. Amor, Assoc. AIA; Jeff Bartosik, Assoc. AIA; Tami Beck, Assoc. AIA; Lauren DiBianca Frye, Assoc. AIA; Ryan D. Heusinkveld, Assoc. AIA; Miki Hirai, Assoc. AIA; Tina Hovsepian, Assoc. AIA; Jill Sornson Kurtz, Assoc. AIA; and Andrew Mitchell, Assoc. AIA.
