German industrial designer Dieter Rams created the 620 Chair in 1962 with the philosophy that furniture should outlast its owner. The chair, which has been rereleased by Vitsoe, is designed to accommodate life’s inevitable changes. Exposed pig-nosed bolts allow it to be joined with another unit (after removing the arms) to form a larger chair or a sofa. Its base is constructed of birch ply, and its arms and back are made of a warm-pressed sheet-molding compound. Full-grain uncoated leather cushions are available in six colors. vitsoe.com
