Michael J. Armstrong has been chosen as the new chief executive officer for the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He brings an extensive résumé in executive roles with nonprofit, government, and for-profit organizations for the past 20 years. Armstrong has been a senior vice president at the International Code Council (ICC) for the past four years.
“I have spent most of my career dedicated to the various aspects of building safety, including working with the architect community,” Armstrong said in a press release. “I’m committed to building upon NCARB’s strong reputation for integrity, precision, and commitment to building safety.” A lawyer by training, Armstrong spent a seven-year stint at FEMA and six years specializing in emergency management and homeland security planning for a consulting firm before his work at the ICC.
NCARB first vice president and president-elect Scott C. Veazey, AIA, led the search committee that selected Armstrong. “We wanted someone who grasped the significance of NCARB’s mission of protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public, as well as the value that brings to the profession and our Member Boards,” Veazey says. “He’s not an architect, but that perspective is very well represented within our staff and volunteers. His unique strengths speak to the needs of the Council at this time.”
Armstrong will join NCARB in June.
