For this exhibition, architect Michael Graves shared his original napkin concepts, sketchbooks, prototypes, 3-dimensional renderings, and final models for his iconic Alessi teakettle as well as his other product designs for that company, Disney, and Target. Displaying the original detail drawings through finished products gives visitors a glimpse at Graves’ design process for his iconic bird-whistle teakettle and other household items. “For each of my product designs it is my goal that it should not only function flawlessly but also make you smile every time you use it,” states Graves in the exhibition description.
Michael Graves: Letting off Steam is on view at Princeton Day School’s Anne Ried ’72 Gallery through April 25. The show is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday when school is in session and by appointment on weekends.
