Dance Complex Achieved LEED Gold Certification

1 MIN READ

The new dance complex at Point Park University recently achieved LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. At 44,000 square feet (4088 m2), the complex contains five rehearsal studios and performance spaces, with room for three additional studios. The building features a heating and cooling system that draws in fresh air, continuous air quality monitoring, lighting and temperature controls, and reflective interior walls to allow daylight to flood the spaces. The 3-story building also features water-saving systems, wood floors, and low-emitting materials. It realizes 24 percent energy cost savings from HVAC systems and lighting and 40 percent savings with water-efficient fixtures. About 85 percent of demolition and construction waste was diverted from landfills, 25 percent of building materials were manufactured within 500 miles (805 km), and 20 percent of materials used contain recycled content.
