Project Description

The new Measurement Systems Laboratory (MSL) at the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) is the third phase in the multi-year master planning effort aimed at consolidating and modernizing existing aging facilities into a smaller, state of the art, core campus environment. MSL will serve as the primary research and development facility for six branches within the Research and Engineering Directorates currently dispersed throughout NASA LaRC. The approximately 175,000 square foot, five-story, state-of-the-art new facility will accommodate as many as 244 permanent staff, itinerant students, and a varying number of daily visiting center employees, members of the public, government and business. It incorporates vibration-sensitive wet and dry bench research and specialized spaces for Electronics, Chemistry, Laser/LIDAR and Sensor, Instrument and Equipment High Bay labs, and ISO Class 5, 6, and 7 Cleanrooms in a modular Utility Corridor configuration. Rational groups of modular labs have been organized into larger blocks of space based on type and/or hazard level, maximizing the ability to accommodate future changes in function within the same space category without requiring significant physical or infrastructure changes.
