The groundbreaking for the final phase of the Frank Gehry, FAIA–designed Grand Avenue Project—dubbed Parcel Q—in Los Angeles is expected to take place in 2018. According to Urbanize LA, project developer Related Co.‘s California branch has filed building permits with the City of Los Angeles. The progress comes after the Hong Kong–based real estate group CORE invested nearly $290 million in the project last year.

The Grand Avenue Project is located across from the Walt Disney Concert Hall—another Gehry design—and aims to revitalize downtown Los Angeles by introducing a variety of commercial, cultural, and residential units accompanied by a public space, and replacing the tinker-toy parking structure that has stood there since 1969. Parcel Q will include a 39-story multi-family tower and a 20-story Equinox hotel. A public plaza will sit atop a six-level parking garage.

The project has an expected completion date of 2022.
