Miami-based architecture and design firm, Touzet Studio, known for mindful architecture and interiors inspired by nature, culture and technology, designed a 12,500+ square foot home set inside a 45-oak tree landscape.
The architects’ goal was to design the house to not be a figure in the landscape, but an observer of the landscape, while respecting the existing oak grove and mature vegetation. Just one oak tree was moved and one rotated in place.
Through meticulous detailing and execution, the elements used – including compositions of volumes linked by walls of glass – were meant to foster a sense of outdoors entering the indoors from all angles of the home; the home always looks out to the impressive landscape. Rooms are organized along the sides of corridors on both levels to open up visually, and often physically, to the outdoors, as they align with elements in the landscape. The richness of the surfaces and their textures create a heightened sense of inside outside, further adding to that outdoor feeling.
The home also consists of custom millwork including a large, semi-enclosed bar of anthracite-stained white oak and slabs of basaltina and stone surfaces that are carefully detailed to read at different scales depending on the proximity of the viewer.
