Portable Pop-Up Architecture

Gaudí Pop-Ups by Courtney Watson McCarthy showcases uncommon architecture in 3D glory

1 MIN READ

The style of Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí is easily recognizable for its organic forms and whimsical references to nature. What better way to convey this exuberant architecture than with a pop-up book? Graphic designer and paper engineer Courtney Watson McCarthy cut out and layered oversized images of Gaudí’s most iconic works: Park Güell, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, and Sagrada Família.

Although it’s only 16 oversized pages long, the book presents detail images of the buildings along with the 3D pop-ups. In addition, quotes from the architect, a biographical introduction, and descriptions of project challenges and client goals help place the colorful graphics in context.

Published in October 2012 by Thames & Hudson, Gaudí Pop-Upshas a list price of $29.95.
