LRC Announces Lutron Scholarship Recipient

1 MIN READ

The Lighting Research Center (LRC) has announced Kenneth Appleman from Green Island, New York, its 2005 Lutron Scholarship winner. The $20,000 tuition grant, funded by Lutron, has been awarded since 1996 to graduate students of LRC’s Master of Science lighting program.

Demonstrating outstanding academic performance and strong leadership abilities, as well as a commitment to research in advanced lighting technologies and lighting controls, Appleman’s research of lighting automation technology and the study of light and health could be used to treat sleep disorders and seasonal affective disorder.

As a second-year student in the program, Appleman will continue to develop advanced methods for applying light to affect the body’s circadian system for another year until his graduation. A self-proclaimed inventor with a fascination for lighting innovation, he hopes to one day develop a company that stems from his work at the LRC.
