Ragdale, an artist’s residency program in Lake Forest, Ill., calls for submissions for a temporary redesign of the historic Ragdale Ring on its property, due Feb. 28.
The original ring was designed by architect Howard Van Doren Shaw in 1912 as an outdoor garden theater for plays written by his wife, Frances Shaw. the Arts and Crafts architect also designed the summer home on his property, the Ragdale House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The competition calls for site-responsive, large-scale submissions that explore the intersections of architecture, sculpture, landscape, public art and performance disciplines.
The winner, who will receive a $10,000 production grant to fund the project as well as an outdoor studio and room and board in May, will be selected by a jury and announced on March 12. The project must be completed by June 1.
